WE BUY SURPLUS ELECTRICAL WIRE IN OVERLAND PARK
Overland Park rebuilds its offices from the inside out. Each fit-out leaves a shelf of half-used reels, and we buy that shelf.
Overland Park changes tenants faster than it changes buildings. A floor is stripped, walls move, a conference room becomes open plan, and the electrical contractor buys more cable than the job consumes. The balance goes on a shelf and stays there. Multiply that across a few hundred buildings and a shelf becomes a store room.
That shelf is what we buy: part reels of MC and THHN, boxes of communication cable, feeder left from a riser change, grounding wire from a service upgrade. Wire and cable only, priced from the print on the jacket and the tag on the flange.
Tenant improvement work leaves short reels
A fit-out is priced before the tenant has finished choosing finishes, so the cable order carries slack. Nobody wants to stop a crew mid-pull for a 200 foot shortage, and nobody wants to explain a 900 foot overage either. The result sits in a back room between projects and eventually becomes dead stock.
Overland Park has a lot of that back room. Corporate campuses along Metcalf and College Boulevard, clinics in converted retail space and multi-tenant buildings that add a meter every few years all generate the same pattern: a reel with a third of its length gone, a tag nobody updated, and a facilities manager who would rather have the space.
| Setting | What tends to be left | Why it stays |
|---|---|---|
| Office fit-out | Part reels of MC and THHN | Kept for the next floor that never comes |
| Data or telecom room | Riser and horizontal cable boxes | Specification changed mid-project |
| Clinic or hospital refit | XHHW feeder and grounding conductors | Job closed before the reel did |
| Parking deck or site lighting | Tray cable and URD | Pull lengths exceeded the drawing |
| Mechanical room | Control and instrumentation cable | Controls contractor left the balance |
A single shelf is a legitimate lot
Small lots get priced here. The test is not weight, it is whether a buyer can identify the cable and trust the length. Four reels on a shelf with readable print are worth a number; a tangle of unmarked cutoffs is worth a conversation about what can be identified.
Nothing has to be re-spooled, cleaned or palletized neatly before collection, though a photograph of the shelf as it stands is more useful than one of a single reel held up to a phone camera.
- Full boxes of MC or AC cable, 250 or 1,000 foot, still strapped.
- Part reels of THHN in the colors a fit-out uses: black, red, blue, white and green.
- Communication and fire-alarm cable on partial boxes with the print legible.
- Bare copper grounding wire, which is easy to weigh and easy to lose track of.
- Feeder cable from a riser or service change, in copper or aluminum.
Data rooms, risers and clinic refits
A riser change is a small job with a large reel. A landlord adds a tenant meter, an electrician pulls SER or feeder up a shaft, and 60 feet comes back on a 500 foot reel. The same happens with the low-voltage layer, where a tenant improvement pulls horizontal cable from a box that holds far more than the floor needs.
Clinics behave the same way at a different scale. Dedicated circuits, isolated grounding and equipment feeds arrive on reels sized for the whole building, and a refit of two suites leaves the rest of the cable behind. Medical equipment itself is out of scope; the wire that feeds it is not.
Getting it out of the building
Most Overland Park collections involve a freight elevator, a dock with booking rules and a window of two hours. Tell us the elevator dimensions, the dock height and the window, and the load is planned around them rather than around a driver hoping for the best.
The city sits inside the I-435 loop with I-35 and US-69 running through it, so a collection can be combined with others in the metro on the same day. Contractors working across the Kansas City metro often hold reels at two or three sites and prefer one run. If the cable is MC or tray, the MC, AC and tray cable page covers what the jacket print will tell us before anyone loads a truck.
If a shelf of reels is taking up a room in Overland Park, photograph the tags and the jacket print together. We will price what is identifiable and leave what is not, and collection is arranged once you accept.

QUESTIONS FROM OVERLAND PARK SELLERS
Do you buy opened boxes of MC cable?
Yes, provided the coils inside are still identifiable and the print can be read. Opened boxes are common after a fit-out. A photograph of the label plus one of the coil is enough to price them, and a short length still has copper value.
How is a part reel priced when the length is unknown?
Two ways. If the tag states the original length and the remaining tail is measurable, the balance is arithmetic. If not, we work from the flange diameter and the number of wraps, which gives a close estimate. Either way the figure is presented as a range until the reel is seen.
Is plenum-rated cable handled differently?
It is read differently rather than priced differently. The jacket print carries the rating, usually CMP, and that rating is what makes the cable usable in a return-air ceiling. Photograph that print clearly, because a plenum rating that cannot be read is treated as ordinary cable.
Can you collect from a managed building with dock rules?
Yes. Managed buildings usually require a booked dock, a named carrier and a delivery window, and often a certificate before arrival. Give us those requirements with the quote and the collection is scheduled to meet them rather than arriving unannounced.
