WE BUY SURPLUS ELECTRICAL WIRE IN OLATHE

Olathe is a county seat that also makes things. Both halves of that sentence leave wire behind, and we buy it.

Johnson CountyWire and cable onlyKansas

Olathe carries two jobs at once. It is the Johnson County seat, with a government center downtown and a school district that builds and renovates on a bond calendar. It is also a manufacturing city, with plants and equipment builders strung along I-35 and K-10.

Both halves buy cable in bulk and finish with cable left over. We buy that surplus, wire and cable only, from single coils to full reels, and the price is set by the print on the jacket rather than by whatever a scale happens to read.

Production floors cut cable to length

An equipment builder buys cable by the reel and cuts to length at the bench. Multi-conductor control cable, shielded instrumentation cable, welding cable for a fixture, SOOW for a test stand. The reel shrinks a few feet at a time, and when the product line changes it is abandoned rather than counted.

Electronics assembly adds a finer grade of the same problem: small spools, short runs, wire specified for a board or a panel that is no longer made. Those spools are worth collecting when there are enough of them and the print is readable.

Neither category is scrap. A 250 foot coil of 16-gauge shielded pair has a use to somebody, and it is priced on that basis rather than on copper content.

  • Control and instrumentation cable, shielded or unshielded, 16 to 12 gauge.
  • Tray cable and VFD cable left from a machine build or a drive swap.
  • Welding cable and SOOW cord, including lengths cut for a fixture that was rebuilt.
  • THHN and MTW hookup wire on part reels or spools.
  • Small spools in quantity, boxed together and labeled by the machine they came off.

Schools and city work run on a summer calendar

A school district cannot rewire a building in October. The work compresses into ten weeks, and a compressed schedule means cable is ordered in a hurry and pulled fast. Reels are left at the building when the crew moves to the next one, and by the time the punch list closes nobody remembers which site holds what.

Municipal work behaves the same way at a slower pace. A pump station, a park shelter, a street lighting extension: each is small, each needs a cable type the contractor does not stock, and each leaves a partial reel that follows the crew back to the shop.

What to photograph before a quote

Four photographs settle most Olathe lots. The point is not to produce a tidy report, it is to remove the guesswork that turns a firm number into a range. A reel photographed where it stands, with the rack or pallet behind it, also answers the loading question without a second visit.

Collection between I-35 and K-10

Olathe is bounded by two useful roads. I-35 runs the length of the city and K-10 clips the north side toward Lawrence and the turnpike, so a load can be collected on the way to somewhere else rather than as a dedicated trip across the state.

City streets are wide and most industrial addresses have a yard a trailer can enter, which makes Olathe one of the easier places in Johnson County to load. If the cable is at a school, the district's own delivery hours usually govern, and those are worth checking before a date is set. Electrical contractors who work across the county can start with the electrical contractors page, then send the photographs through the quote form. Loads are usually built on a pallet and banded before the truck arrives, which keeps the visit short.

If a plant, a school or a shop in Olathe is holding cable it will not use, send the flange and the jacket print. We price the specification you actually have, and collection is arranged once the number is agreed.

QUESTIONS FROM OLATHE SELLERS

Do you buy small spools as well as reels?

Yes, when they are grouped and labeled. Fifty spools of hookup wire in a box with the gauges written on the side can be priced as one lot. Loose spools with no marking are harder, and usually need a sample photograph before anything is committed.

Is welding cable worth selling?

It is, especially the heavier sizes used on production fixtures. Welding cable is flexible, heavily insulated and often still in good condition after a machine is rebuilt. Length, gauge and jacket condition are what matter, and the print on the jacket carries all three.

Can you price cable from a school bond project?

Yes. School work usually means MC, THHN and communication cable in ordinary sizes, often left at the building rather than returned to a shop. If the district requires approval before material leaves, we will wait for that approval rather than arriving early.

What if the cable has been stored outdoors?

Outdoor storage is normal and not disqualifying. Sun exposure degrades some jackets, and water inside a reel is a real problem, so the condition of the outer wraps is checked. Cable stored on a pallet off the ground usually survives far better than cable standing in a puddle.
