Why this exists

Most surplus wire does not get sold because nobody wants to explain it. The reel is in the back of a warehouse, the job it belonged to is closed, the electrician who pulled it has moved on, and the tag is faded. So it sits there for three years and eventually goes out with the scrap, priced as copper weight and nothing else.

Electrical Wire Buyers Kansas exists to buy that wire as wire. We look at the tag, the jacket, the conductor and the footage, and we make an offer on the material you already paid for. That is the whole business.

What we are not

We are not a scrap yard and we are not a surplus equipment dealer. We do not buy transformers, switchgear, breakers, MCCs, generators, chillers or machinery, and we do not pretend to. We also do not have a Kansas office, yard or walk-in counter, and this site will never claim one. The work happens on the phone, in photos and at your loading dock.

How we look at a reel

Four things decide most of the value: what the wire is, how much of it is left, what condition it is in, and whether it can be moved without damaging it. A tagged full reel of 15 kV concentric neutral cable and a partial reel of 12 AWG THHN are both worth buying, for entirely different reasons and at entirely different numbers.

We would rather decline a load than quote it blind. If the photos do not support a real offer, we will ask for one more photo, or tell you what would have to be true for the load to be worth collecting.

Kansas, specifically

The state has an unusual spread of wire work for its population: aircraft manufacturing and its supplier tiers around Wichita, rail and distribution in the Kansas City metro, state and university campuses in the northeast, food and grain processing through the centre, and beef, irrigation and wind in the west. Each of those leaves different cable behind, and we buy across all of it through our Kansas service areas.
